Former governor, Evans Kidero, of Kenya’s capital, Nairobi, has been arrested by The Ethics and Anti-corruption Commission (EACC) officials over an alleged irregular payment of $665,485 (£515,976) to a law firm.

Evans Kidero was arrested along with his former chief of staff George Wainaina after the Director of Public Prosecution, Noordin Haji, gave consent for their prosecution.

The two were accused of irregularly paying KSh 68 million to Stephen Kariuki from Wachira Mburu Mwangi and Company Advocates without following the laid down procedures.

According to bbc.com, Kenya’s prosecuting authority issued a statement saying there was sufficient evidence to charge 17 people, including Mr Kidero and Mr Wainaina.

The charge has to do with money laundering, conspiracy to commit corruption, abuse of office, and unlawful acquisition of public office.

The commission is yet to give a detail report regarding the arrest.
