The Edo State Government has presented three Hilux vehicles and three motorcycles to three local government areas for the monitoring of sanitation and hygiene in rural areas.
The sanitation monitoring programme would be done under the Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Project of the European Union and the United Nations International Children Education Fund (UNICEF).
The state’s Acting Governor, Philip Shaibu, who presented the keys to the benefiting local government areas of Uhunmwode, Orhionmwon and Owan West, warned the chairmen not to turn the vehicles to personal use.
Shaibu urged the management of the local government councils to ensure they monitor the WASH official to properly utilise them.
He thanked donor agencies for their contribution, and expressed government’s determination in ensuring proper sanitation in rural communities for health benefit of the citizens.
On his part, Chairman of Uhunmwode Local Government Area, Mr Napoleon Agbama, who spoke on behalf of other benefiting local government councils, commended the donor agencies and pledged readiness to put the vehicles to good use.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that the WASH project under the supervision of the Ministry of Energy and Water Resources, had given out similar vehicles to other local government areas in two previous batches.
