A cross-breed of a red deer and an elk attacked the couple after they entered its enclosure in their home, killing the husband while leaving the wife critically injured.
It happened in Moyhu, a rural town in the state of Victoria about 155 miles northeast of Melbourne, Australia.
According to skysports, the police said the 46-year-old man, Paul McDonald, was attacked after entering its enclosure, and the woman, Mandi McDonald, was also set upon when she went in after hearing a commotion.
Reports states that the deer had been kept as a pet for two years and the police were called to shoot the deer before a paramedic treated the couple, but McDonald was pronounced dead at the scene.
His wife was airlifted to Alfred Hospital in Melbourne, where her condition remains critical.
She is being treated for upper body and leg injuries.
