A Wuse Zone II Magistrates’ Court, Abuja, on Thursday sentenced four men to two months’ imprisonment each for stealing 100 litres of diesel from Julius Berger Nig. Plc.
The convicts include 37-year-old John Dang, staff of Julius Berger, and 34-year-old Matthew Kwanghtser of the Halogen Security Guard and attached to a Julius Berger facility at Church Gate Central area, Abuja.
The others are Omeje Williams, 30, and Hassan Mohammed, 32, both security men.
Magistrate Egbe Joshua sentenced them to two months’ imprisonment each, with an option of N2,000 fine each.
They had pleaded guilty to conspiracy and theft preferred against them by the police.
The convicts had also pleaded for leniency, saying that harsh economic situation pushed them into the crime.
Earlier, police prosecutor Adeyemi Oyeyemi told the court that one Mr Ochezona Mogbo of Utako, Abuja, reported the case at the Central Police Station, Abuja, on March 27.
He said that Dang, who worked in the company as the excavator machine operator, conspired with the security guards and stole 100 litres of diesel from the firm, in contravention of Sections 97 and 287 of the Penal Code.
