As the Independent Electoral Commission suspends all electoral process in Rivers State, the United Kingdom has expressed concern over reports of what it calls military interference in the governorship and state assembly elections in the state.
In a tweet@UKinNigeria’s verified handle, the UK High Commission stressed the importance of allowing INEC to do its job.
It said, “Extremely concerned by reports, including from our observers, of military interference in the election process in Rivers State. Monitoring the situation closely. @inecng staff must be allowed to do their job in safety, without intimidation.”
INEC officials had called on the military authority to clarify the identity of some men in military uniform who moved into the collation centre in Port Harcourt.
There was also a mild drama in the form of soldiers and policemen struggling for what seemed to be supremacy by the gate of the centre.
