Shock, grief as AK media boss, Benson Akindeju, dies in London hospital

Shocked ran through the Nigerian entertainment community on Tuesday as news of the death of Lagos-based media and production company, AK Media, Asiwaju Benson Akindeju, broke.

According to his family, he passed on on Monday after a brief illness in a London hospital.

He was 59.

Akindeju was the producer of the following popular programmes that include Face2fFace, Family Ties, Nowhere to be Found, Liberty Villa and Oyinmomo, on DSTV.

A statement by his family, signed by Sunday Akindeju, said he was survived by wife, children and other relatives.

“Asiwaju Benson was a business man whose passion for entertainment made him have a shot at hospitality business thus having a hotel in Lagos and his home town Igbotako in Ondo State,” the statement added, noting that details of his burial arrangement  would be announced later.

When a film producer, Tunde Olaoye, first broke the news on Facebook, several stakeholders expressed shock and prayed he rest in peace, while also symphatising with his family.
