Five-time Grammy Award-winning rapper, songwriter, and producer, Missy Elliott, is set to make history by being the first female hip-hop artiste to receive an honorary doctorate from Berklee College of Music.
The announcement was made on Tuesday March,12.
Elliott will be receiving the honorary Doctor of Music degree alongside Justin Timberlake and Alex Lacamoire.
It will commence May 11 at Boston University’s Agganis Arena.
Aretha Franklin, B.B. King, Smokie Robinson, and Willie Nelson are among others who have received honorary doctorates.
This January, the rapper was officially inducted into the 2019 Songwriters Hall of Fame, making her the first woman to receive the distinctive honour; Jay-Z and Jermaine Dupri are other hip-hop artists who have been inducted as well.
