Driver in the dock for allegedly damaging employer’s truck, stealing N755,000

A 26-year-old driver, Ifeanyi Enwerem, who allegedly damaged his employer’s truck and absconded with N755,000 on Thursday appeared in a Tinubu Magistrates’ Court Lagos.
The police charged Enwerem, who resides at No. 7 Abayomi St., Ajah, Lagos, with two counts of fraudulent damage to property and stealing.

The prosecutor, Insp Ben Ekundayo, told the court that the defendant committed the offence on Feb. 20 at KM 46, Majek Gate, Abijo, Ajah, Lagos.
Ekundayo said that the defendant destroyed a Toyota truck with Registration No. AKDA23XU belonging to the complainant,, Snow-white Water Ltd.
He said that the defendant was asked to deliver some sachets and bottled water to some customers.
After the delivering the items, the prosecutor said, the defendant parked the truck in front of the company gate, broke the windshield, damaged the engine and left.
The offence, he said, contravened the provisions of sections 287 (7) 314 and 338 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that Section 287 (7) attracts seven years imprisonment and Section 314 prescribes 15 years in prison.
The defendant pleaded not guilty to the
Magistrate A. M. Olumide-Fusika, admitted the defendant to bail in the sum of N150,000 with two sureties in like sum.
Olumide-Fusika ordered that one of the sureties must be a relation of the defendant and the other surety a civil servant.
The case was adjourned until April 10.
