Drama as Bauchi commissioner resigns on eve of election re-run

There was drama in Bauchi State on Friday as the Commissioner for Finance, Garba Mohammed Akuyam, resigned his appointment.

He also abandoned the All Progressives Congress and later surfaced in a photo with the Speaker of the House of Representatives, Yakubu Dogara, who had earlier decamped to the Peoples Democratic Party.
The APC and pep are at loggerheads in the controversial rerun holding in the state today (Saturday).

In his resignation letter, Akuyam said his decision to withdraw his service was as a result of the recent political developments in the state.

He said, “It is with pains, heavy heart and deep concern that I write to tender my resignation as Honorable Commissioner for Finance and member of the Bauchi State Executive Council with effect from today, March 22, 2019. I am compelled to resign my appointment in view of the recent developments and political realities of present day Bauchi State, as well as dictates of the moment.”

Dogara, however, later noted in a Facebook post: “Glad to receive my brother Hon Garba Akuyam who just resigned as commissioner of finance Bauchi State and joined the PDP family in Bauchi.”
