An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court on Monday ordered that a 40-year-old man, Salaudeen Toyin, accused of lodging in a hotel for ten days and refusing to pay a bill of N168,100, be remanded in prison.
The police charged Toyin, whose address was not given, with fraud.
The Magistrate, Mr Muhibah Olatunji, ordered that Toyin be remanded in Ile-Ife prison, pending hearing in his bail application.
The news Agency of Nigeria reports that Olatunji adjourned the case until April 11, for bail consideration.
Earlier, the Prosecutor, Sgt. Bassey Asuquo told the court that the accused committed the offence on March 2 at 10:10 am at Hotel De-Treasure on the Ibadan road, Ile-Ife.
Asuquo said that the accused lodged with a lady in the hotel for ten days, ordered for food and drinks, and accumulated a total of N168,100, property at the ‘De-Treasure Hotel’.
The prosecutor said that the accused after lodging and accumulating the huge bill failed to pay.
He said the offence contravened the provisions of sections 419A (1) and 421 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) reports that accused was not legally represented.
