As the Independent National Electoral Commission Chairman, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, assures Nigerians and the international community that the Saturday 23 date for the presidential election is sacrosanct, he has said that no device can successfully attack the commission’s card readers and other gadgets.
Speaking obviously in response to an allegation by the presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, that that the card readers were being manipulated by the All Progressives Congress, Yakubu said that INEC’s devices worked offline, and so could not be manipulated.
According to him, the devices also work in such a way that it is active between the morning that INEC starts work and becomes inactive by 10 pm.
Anytime after that, it would not work again, he stressed.
He said at a stakeholders meeting on Wednesday that only “only an Act of God” could stop the election.
He said the card readers had been reconfigured 100 per cent, while materials that been mobilis
ed to 10 states as of Wednesday evening.
Yakubu noted that the commission had no reason to feel that anything would stop the conduct of the election on February 23.
“We believe that as a prayerful nation the act of God has been assuaged and that things will go right, we have no reason to feel that anything will go wrong.
“We have received all the materials, they have been checked, audited, people have been informed, party agents have gone there to check,” he said.
