President of Mandate Group, Effiong Etukudo, has alleged that the former Governor of Akwa Ibom State,  Godswill  Akpabio, is inviting the leadership of the Nigerian Army to interfere in election process in the state.

Etukudo, in a statement, said the  GOC 6 Division Nigeria Army to help him “manipulate” election results.

He noted, “Senator Akpabio has invited the help of the GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army based in Port Harcourt to Uyo as part of a last ditch effort to subvert the will of the people and force INEC officials to announce results in favour of APC in Akwa Ibom State.

“The plot is to use the GOC and Army personnel to intimidate INEC officials to allow Senator Akpabio and his cohorts to alter elections results in the state which has overwhelmingly gone against him and APC.

“We call on the President and Commander-in-Chief of the Nigerian Armed Forces, the Chief of Army Staff, the International and Diplomatic Community to prevail on the GOC 6 Division Nigerian Army to return to his duty post in Port Harcourt and not allow himself to be used by Senator Akpabio to subvert the will of Akwa Ibom.”

The leadership of the military has however denied interfering in elections n any part of the country.

At different fora, it has said that it was only concerned about peace and security during the polls.

Akpabio also said in a recent interview that he would not in anyway take any step that could subvert the process.
