Governor Nasir el-Rufai of Kaduna State has defended a statement he made on Tuesday, warning foreign observers and other powers that, he believes, want to interfere with the coming elections.
He said on NTA on Tuesday that those attempting to do so would go back in what he called body bags.
He had said, “Those that are calling for anyone to come and intervene in Nigeria, we are waiting for the person that would come and intervene, they would go back in body bags.”
The statement has generated controversy, with the Peoples Democratic Party describing it as a threat to peace.
But speaking on the matter on Wednesday, el-Rufai said the call he made was a patriotic one.
According to him, some forces are working with the PDP to undermine the country’s independence and the independence of the election.
“They can only observe, they can’t lecture us,” he said.
