Collector buys a copy of Things Fall Apart N1m

A Nigerian lucky to have the first edition of Chinua Achebe’s classical novel, Things Fall Apart, is now a million naira richer.

The copy was bought by a collector who prefers to remain anonymous.

Although the beneficiary too is not disclosed, his/her friend, Lola Shoneyin, an author and founder of the Ake Book Festival,

had, on Sunday, put the book up for sale.

The new owner is said to have gone for it hours after the announcement.

Published in 1958, Things Fall Apart remains one of the most important novels the world has produced.

It has sold globally in millions while it has been translated into more than 50 languages across the world.
