President Muhammadu Buhari has defeated Alhaji Atiku Abubakar in Lagos State.
In the Saturday’s presidential election, the APC’s candidate got 580,825 while Atiku secured 448,015.
It is a feat that pundits will, however, have a lot to reflect on as Lagos seems to be becoming a level-playing ground for the PDP and APC.
Ordinarily, the influence of the APC leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, is believed to be able to swing for the APC a landslide.
But the reality of the sophisticated nature of the Lagos electorate – or is it electorates – seems to be preventing that.
Here is a state that boasts many people from different ethnic nationalities and an elite that can be as stubborn as anything.
Yet, the implication could also be that, without a Tinubu in APC, the party coul
d as well easily lose the goldmine called Lagos to the PDP.
According to Prof. Felix Salako, the Vice Chancellor, University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, who was the INEC state collation officer, the state had registered voters of 6,313,507, with accredited voters at 1, 196, 490.
The valid votes are 1,089,567, total rejected votes at 67,023 while votes cast stand at 1,157, 590 in the presidential election.
He said Accord polled 5, 948 votes, AAC, 8, 910; ADC, 2915; ADP, 1,262 and ANN polled 6,946.
APA had 1495 votes, DPP polled 1,372 votes, PCP got 8,458, and SNC scored 1766.
