President Muhammadu Buhari has expressed appreciation to the Nigerian electorate for reelecting him for another four years.
Buhari defeated his closest rival, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, with a margin of 3,928,869 votes.
The Returning Officer for the 2019 presidential elections, Prof. Mahmood Yakubu, declared him winner at 4.37am., having polled 15,191,847 while Atiku had had 11,262,978.
“Muhammadu Buhari, having scored the highest number of votes and satisfied the provision of the electoral act is hereby declared the winner of the presidential election,” Yakubu declared.
He said that certificate of return would e issued to the President-elect and Vice President-elect by 2 pm on Wednesday.
Buhari regretted that some people indulged in violence despite the fact the election was peaceful.
At the campaign headquarters of the APC, he was also said to have hailed the party’s leader, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, and the security agencies as well as other stakeholders for making the election a success
