Fresh from winning the Ogun Central senatorial seat, governor of the state, Ibikunle Amosun, has reignited his feud with the National Working Committee (NWC) of the All Progressives Congress (APC) by affirming his support for his anointed successor and standard bearer of the APM, Abdulkadir Kunle Akinlade.
Recall that Amosun had been engaged in a running battle with the APC’s NWC over his support for Akinlade and opposition to Dapo Abiodun, the party’s standard bearer for the March 9 governorship election.
He had gone as far as accusing his predecessor, Aremo Segun Osoba and National Leader of the APC, Asiwaju Bola Ahmed Tinubu, of being the ones that imposed Abiodun on the party.
Speaking with reporters in his office in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital after his victory in the national assembly election was confirmed, Amosun claimed that there was a gang-up against him, going by the poll’s result.
He said, “I’m happy with the result of the election. When the result came out, check Mr President’s result and check mine, you will see that were little differences. Those are the people that don’t want us; those that want us are about 80 to 90 per cent and those that don’t want us are about 10 per cent, that’s life.
“Don’t think that everybody will love you, no matter how perfect you may be. We are humans, some people won’t like you, and even if they don’t hate you, they will not like you.
“I don’t hate anybody. Truly, I wasn’t taking them seriously that they wanted to gang up against me, but if you see the result of the election you will know that truly they ganged up against me but that God in me is far greater than God that is in all of them”.
He said that he was happy to represent his people and that he would lead Akinlade’s campaign as from tomorrow, Wednesday.
“From today, we are stepping down campaigns in memory of our colleague that lost his life, and we thank God for SSG’s life, we won’t be able to start the campaign today. We just stepped down the exco meeting and tomorrow; we are starting fully for my candidate, our candidate Abdulkabir Adekunle Akinlade. From tomorrow, all our assembly members and people are ready for the campaign,” said Amosun.
