The Nigerian Labour Congress has insisted on N30,000 minimum wage across all sectors and cadres as the minimum wage for the country’s workers.
The workers’ leaders maintained their stand against the decision of the Council of States to make the minimum wage N35,000 for federal workers and N27,000 for state and private sector workers when they had a session with the National Assembly.
While the Minister of Labour, Dr Chris Ngige, argued that raising the minimum wage indiscriminately would affect the economic system, the NLC President, Aruba Wabba, said even the N30,000 they were clamouring for was nothing in the face of economic hardship biting the polity.
He said, “N30,000 is just N1,000 per day,” he said.
