Man, 35, in court for N350,000 fraud

An Ile-Ife Magistrates’ Court in Osun on Friday arraigned a 35-year-old man, Tunde Adebayo, over alleged N350,000 fraud.
The Prosecutor, Insp. Sunday Osanyintuyi, told the court that the accused committed the offence between July 2017 and June 2018 at Ajanaku Estate, Ibadan Road, Ile-Ife.
Osanyintuyi said that the accused collected N350,000 from the complainant, Falope Mary, with the pretence to purchase a plot of land for her at Gbarin Quarters, off Ifewara Road, Ile-Ife.
He said that the accused failed to purchase the land and fraudulently converted the sum to his own use.
According to him, the offence contravened Sections 383, 390 (9) and 419 of the Criminal Code, Laws of Osun, 2002.
The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the two-count charge of pretence and fraud.
Counsel to the accused, Mr Sunday Olagbaju, pleaded for the bail of his client in most liberal term adding that he would not jump bail, but would produce reliable sureties.
The Magistrate, Olalekan Ijiyode, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with one surety in like sum.
Ijiyode added that the surety must swear to affidavit of means, reside within the court’s jurisdiction while the address should be verified by the court
The case was adjourned until Feb, 2 for mention.
