As many people continue to pour encomiums on the late President Sheu Shagari, Oyo State Governor, Abiola Ajimobi, has recalled the impact that Shagari made in the housing sector.
According to him, apart from the fact that Shagari led a modest life, the low-cost houses he built are a major achievement.
In a statement by his Special Adviser on Communication and Strategy, Mr Bolaji Tunji, Ajimobi said, “No doubt the late former President was an example of simplicity and modesty. As a president he lived by example by not amassing wealth despite the oil boom in the early period of his administration.
“His sterling democratic credentials and patriotism are noteworthy.
“Throughout his political career, including when he served as minister and federal commissioner, as well as a member of the House of Representatives before becoming President, he distinguished himself.
“The low-cost housing estates constructed across the country during the regime of Alhaji Shagari remain the template which successive administrations built upon to reduce the country’s huge housing deficit.”
