The Commissioner for Police in Lagos State, Imohimi Edgar, has said that the command has arrested 14 persons for the violence that occurred during the inauguration of the campaign of the governorship candidate of the All Progressives Congress in Ikeja, Lagos.
According to him, a review of the video of the incident showed that it was caused by members of the National Union of Road Transport Workers, adding that a key player in the incident had been declared wanted.
Imohimi noted that preliminary investigation indicated that the violence at the event was caused by rivalry in the NURTW.
The CP confirmed that one person died during the incident while three injured persons were admitted to the Lagos State University Teaching Hospital, where they were treated and discharged.
According to him, popular NURTW leader, Musiliu Akinsanya (MC Oluomo), who was injured during the violence, was taken to the Eko Hospital and was recuperating.
He said, “Around 2am, I led my men to Lagos Island, some of the boys who caused the crises were hired.
“Around the Millennium Housing Estate, and the area around the bridge, we arrested 14 suspects. Some of them have given us useful information.
“The preliminary investigation we carried out reveals that it is just their internal union crisis. I heard that their state chairman would leave soon and there are some players who wanted to succeed him.
“But the inauguration of a governorship candidate campaign is not a good venue for them to begin their fight. We will not tolerate it,” he said.
