A revelation made by the Cross River State Governor, Prof. Ben Ayade, on Wednesday has paved the way for him to enter the hall of fame of VIPs who were once taxi drivers.

The expression will remind many people of Bobby Benson’s ‘If you marry taxi driver’ and legendary Adeyemi Afolayan’s movie with the title, ‘Taxi Driver’.

Before now it was the likes of leading politician, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu; and billionaire founder of Globacom, Dr Mike Adenuga, that were known to have been taxi drivers (though abroad) before their destinies asserted themselves.

But at a political rally with commercial vehicle drivers in Calabar, Ayade told the crowd that he was once a taxi driver.

He said, “I am a former taxi driver. I used to drive taxis. I am one of you. I cannot be ashamed to reveal this. I started out in life as a hustler and driver. I therefore know your importance to the society and government.”
Predictably, the politician was applauded by the transport workers.
