There is jubilation in the world of Fela Anikulapo Kuti as son of the legend, Seun, has been nominated for a Grammy Award.

This seems to have become a culture for the afro family as his brother, Femi, had secured similar nominations on more than two occasions in the past.

Seun is nominated for his album, ‘Black Times’, released on March 2, 2018.

He is nominated alongside Bombino (Deran), Fatoumata Diawara (Fenfo), Soweto Gospel Choir (Freedom) and Yiddish Glory (The Lost Songs of World War II) for Best World Music Album.

According to the Grammy Awards website, the nomination for ‘Best World Music Album’ recognises “albums containing at least 51% playing time of new vocal or instrumental World Music recordings.”

The development will also gladden the hearts of afro fans in the sense that it remains the genre to beat.

Indeed, no other musical genre in Nigeria has amassed as much recognition as afro beat has done.

No wonder, many Nigerian acts are going back to it.
