Gospel singers are doing their trade a great service at this year’s One Lagos Fiesta.
From Ikorodu to Epe, Agege, Victoria Island and Badagry, they are showing that even at a secular concert like the OLF, they can win the crowd.
Ordinarily, one would think that the largely-youth crowds at the venues have their minds wired for hippy stuff. But there hasn’t been any occasion the audience scorned any of the gospel singers at the ongoing OLF.
But this did not come as manna from heaven. The singers have all worked well for it.
Among them are Atorise, who was among the people that opened the concert in Agege; and Ibadan, Oyo State-based Bois Olorun, whose apala gospel has caused a lot of sensation at different centres.
Mega 99 is the proverbial odu vegetable that is no stranger to the farmer as far as the Lagos crowd is concerned. His modernist brand, called gospel-juju – or is it the other way around – enabled him to give the Victoria Island guys the funky-fied kingdom music they liked.
In all, what is also working for the gospel acts is the worship and prayer mood thy import into the OLF, so that they help the audience to kill two birds with a single stone.
And they seem to have far more in store for the Lagosians who will still be at the five centres today and tomorrow.
