2018: Year that Oba Akiolu will throw bombshell

As the 2018 is a year of home for many Lagosians, it is also one when a bombshell will land on the heads of some key stakeholders.

The Oba of Lagos, HRH Rilwan Akiolu, is the one who promised them the shell-bomb, if you like.

It has got to do with the controversy surrounding the ownership of Lagos.

While Benin descendants and apologists say Lagos belongs to Benin Kingdom, saying Benin people were the first to settle there, others, especially the Awori, say that it is a fallacy, as they claim they are the rightful owners of the land of wealth called Lagos.

Interestingly, Oba Akiolu has sympathy for the Benin crusaders. Although he said that he never said Benin owned Lagos, noting that all he said was that Benin had some political authority over it, as indicated by the reverence it gets when a new oba is being installed in Lagos, the monarch promised late last year that he would come down heavily an all the people who had been criticising him over the matter.

At a book launch in Lagos last December, Oba Akiolu said he would make some shocking revelations this year, when he would mark his 15th year on throne.

He said the arguers would hear what they would never forget in their lives.
