It derived its name from “Ojubo-elegbara”. Esu, the deity at the crossroads (orita-meta), was also known by the Yoruba as Elegbara.
The deity is worshipped at crossroads. Olofin, the fourth ruler of Lagos Island, introduced the worship of the deity. Ojuelegba was the spot where it was worshiped.
